For a newcomer to DCC or for the operation of a smaller layout, this system is a great choice. Comprising of a Base Station, Walkaround, and Power Supply, this system is packed with features but is above all, incredibly easy to use and allows you to run your railway without fuss. With 1.6 amps, there is enough power to keep things interesting but its best feature is its sheer ease of use. Some other budget systems have the control on the console, but with this system the lightweight and comfortable Walkaround allows you extra mobility.

PRODIGY ADVANCE² consists of three elements.  The POWER PACK transforms the power from your mains socket ready for the Base Unit.  The BASE UNIT is the brains behind the operation.  It contains all the technology you need to send DCC commands to your trains and accessories.  However, short of turning the power on and off, you'll find your closest companion is the Walkaround controller which plugs straight into the Base Unit.  

The WALKAROUND is a hand-held controller that you use to send your commands to the Base Unit, which then sends them on to the relevant decoder on your layout.  You control the speed and direction of your trains from here.  One of the key features of DCC operation is that each of your locomotives has a numeric address which you select as and when you want to run that locomotive.

The Prodigy Wireless Starter Pack is in effect the DCC02 Prodigy Advance base unit utilizing the Wireless technology to allow greater freedom when controlling your layout. The wireless dongle receiver included gives a range of around 100ft, and the Prodigy base unit can accomodate additional Wireless Walkarounds, and has controller ports for Wired Walkarounds.

The DCC05 Prodigy WiFi receiver gives Android and iOS users the option to operate their Prodigy system with a smartphone or tablet. This means you have greater flexibility to control your layout, both alone and with multiple controllers.

To install, simply connect the Prodigy WiFi into the controller or cab socket on your Prodigy base unit - you can do this with the lead provided, or with any Prodigy handset cable.

Once you have installed the Prodigy WiFi, open your device's WiFi settings and connect it to the relevant network.

The Prodigy WiFi is compatible with the JMRI Engine Driver (Android) and WiThrottle (iOS) apps. Versions of both apps are free to download, so you can download the relevant app before-hand to take a look at how it works.

The Apps are for operating the layout and accessories but do not allow reading or programming, so keep your original handset safe. You can also use your handset and WiFi devices together, simply remember to set the Cab number higher than your last handset number.

This 3 amp stationary decoder has four separately addressed outputs which can be used individually or set up as a route. This decoder is used for the operation of solenoid point motors or accessories such as lighting or signals.

This is an incredibly useful product that offers the modeller a decoder testing facility in a non railway environment which can be vital before a complex installation. The bulb (included) acts as the motor in such a test. It also offers outputs to run a locomotive on DC as well as the facility to switch instantly between the Program and Main Tracks.

The Prodigy Walkaround Adaptor allows a simple connection for two handsets onto the Express and Wireless base units. The Adapter supports all Prodigy control options enabling easy expansion for all Prodigy systems.

The DCC80 Autofrog is a simple switch that automatically changes the frog polarity on your DCC layout. In most situations, the use of electrofrog points is recommended on digital layouts to ensure reliability but this can make extra switching more complicated than it needs to be. Allow us to introduce you to the Autofrog. Wiring the DCC80 is simple. There are three solder connections on the board, 2 connections labelled “R” - which you should connect to your rails or your bus and 1 connection labelled “F” which you connect to the frog input wire.

As there are so many variations of point/turnout, we recommend you follow your track manufacturer’s instructions. For an example, in the instructions below have shown a typical set up where the frog is isolated by an optional track break – this avoids unwanted short circuits if you forget to throw the point. With the frog powered by the DCC80, it can detect the incoming polarity of the wheels and switches the frog to match.
